I am a happy SP2022 [9mm] owner and have enjoyed this pistol very much .Ive been looking at a stainless guide rod and finally bought on from Steve Bedair, every thing Ive found about his guide rods have been very positive.I got it yesterday and went to install it and the head of the guide rod [spring seat]is shorter than my original [plastic].Has any one came across this,I don't know enough about firearms do be comfortable with installing this guide rod.I am an automotive tech and this is raising a red flag PLEASE any advice would be WELCOME as I don't know what I may Damage or destroy

By shorter do you mean the lip is thinner? Does the end sit flush with the muzzle end of the slide? I have one made by Bedair and to tell you the truth I never paid attention to the differences in the two. Measure the over all length and the thickness of your spring seat and I will compare to mine. I have had no functionality issues with mine. If you have a means of doing a precision measurement like dial calipers or micrometers, that would be the most accurate way to compare between mine and yours. Everyone reads a tape measure differently, you know what I mean and something like handgun parts every thousandths of an inch counts.
Although if the over all length is the same as your factory plastic one you should have no problems with it. I think that even if the lip is a little thinner, breakage shouldn't be an issue because we all know that Stainless is a lot stronger than the polymer that Sig used for the factory one.

Sorry for the delay, been busy.I could not figure out how to attach more than one pic so I sent the one that bothers me the most. Overall length of plastic is 3.028 stainless is 3.020
head dia of plastic is 0.502.5 stainless 0.498.5 plastic shaft dia is 0.254.5 stainless 0.253 this is the one that bothers me seat [head] height plastic 0.126 stainless 0.149 digital micrometer As you can see in the pic the difference is very noticeable and I [new to hand guns] am nervous about install even though I have found NO negative feedback

I don't see that much difference. You say the thickness of the plastic is .126 and the steel is .149, but the overall lenth difference is .008. The only thing that will do is compress the spring by .023 over stock and that should not give you any issues what so ever. I would go ahead and install and have some fun.
