Hello all - thought I'd make a separate thread for testing SD ammo, as some folks were talking about that on another SD thread. I wanted to see what the Federal HST LE JHP 24 gr 9mm would look like firing from my SP2022, so I took a phone book, soaked it with water, placed it in a carboard boxed wine box with some other soaked manuals, and hung it at the range with a gallon jug of water right behind it. I fired 5 shots as fast as I could from 7 yards away....wouldn't you know it, all of them went through the phone book AND the gallon jug (of course the first one pretty quickly emptied the gallon jug. I did find ONE lug looking in the dirt backstop. So....maybe two phone books and a gallon jug? Any ideas?
If you do experiments, how about posting a pic with description of the ammo so we can all see can compare? I'll get a pic of the one slug I found and post it.

May try more than one jug of water. Most test videos Ive seen have had several jugs of water. My test was done by shooting down into a 5 gallon bucket full of water with a layer of plastic sheeting and some old denim shorts over the top. Then I stood on the top of our picnic table and fired straight down into the bucket. The round expanded and did not go though the bottom of the bucket.

My brother and I have talked about buying sim test media, I jut don't why we would want to test ammo when tnoutdoors9 has done about every round imaginable.

Kenny, if you hvae a chance sometime can you please post some pics of your rounds from your test? I'd like to see and compare with the excellent video that MVRK put up. I just got back from drilling in Arkansas, so need to take pics this weekend of the one slug I recovered. Not nearly as neat as the one in the video, but good expansion. Mine was 124 grain Federal HST JHP.

Geo, I will when I get the chance. Although I can tell you it looks just like the pictures on the box. Perfect flower.

Geo. My expanded bullet looks just like MVRK's avatar. Everyone of my coworkers that I showed it to was amazed how it expanded. I imagine that one or two of those into the chest will stop the threat for sure.

Thanks, Kenny. I plan on further investigating the author of the excellent video that MVRK posted to see how other types of ammo reacted. For home tests, I will try your technique with the 5-gallon bucket and jean material. Maybe add a few sticks of wood under the jeans to simulate bone just to see the difference if a round hits one. I just got in some 9mm Federal HST JHP 147 gr like the video and I'm curious.

I think the perfect test media would be a hind quarter from a hog but I would sure hate to waste such a good cut of meat. BTW I'm not talking about a live one, PETA! LOL.

TnOutdoors9 is awesome, he has tested almost everything. I really enjoy his videos. I think his tests pretty much prove that HST is the real deal. I don't think there is a round on the market that compares. I really hope my LGS has some P40HST1 in stock on Tuesday because I may just come home with 50 rounds.

Also there is a lot of data provided by the FBI out there on the HST's.
