Dry Firing your sp2022 may eventually damage The firing pin bolt or firing pin. The firing pin bolt is the solid or steel roll pin that runs horizontally through the slide and retains the firing pin.
The cheap and easy way to dry fire and prevent any damage is to place half of a foamy earplug inside the slide recess under the hammer to protect the firing pin. The recess retains the foamy perfectly preventing impact on the firing pin and eliminates possible damage over time.
Although I have dry fired my Sig Pro and 2022's many thousands of times without any noted damage. I think that from here on out all of those dry hammer strikes will thud softly on foamy ear plugs as cheap insurance.

I'll have to try this, Guppy. According to the manual, dry firing is OK to do. But safety precautions never hurt. I bought some snap caps and use those, but I will look into your idea as well.

I'm so used to striker fired pistols where dry firing is not an after thought at all. Hammer fired is new to me, so thanks for the word. Though my research has found that most modern firearms are not susceptible to damage due to dry firing, but this could be one of the "not most".

Snap caps are $3 for 5. And they look funky with the orange tip.

They need to make the slide pull back on dry firing somehow

I practice most of my dry firing using DA, since that is what would most likely be the case in a HD or SD situation. To practice SA, I just cock the hammer.
