I am currently refinishing my 31 year old Marlin Glenfield model 60 .22lr rifle. I am in the process of doing some custom stock work and will post all pics of the stock process when done so I don't give away what I am doing. It will be a stunner once you get to see. Here are the photos of what I have done to the reciever and barrel assembly. I stripped all rust and bluing off of the steel parts and stripped the paint off of the cast aluminum parts. 3 light coats of rust reformer automotive primer followed by 2 light coats of automotive silver paint and finally 3 light coats of automotive clear paint to give it a blasted stainless look. I have a back up plan if the paint job starts to fail and not hold up to my standards, I now have access to a high power metal buffer that I can polish the barrel and receiver to a mirror finish if I have to. The stock on the other hand is what is taking me the longest but it won't be long now as I have gotten all the supplies needed to complete. photobucket.com/MarlinGlenfieldProjectPlease feel free to check in and see what is going on. I will make a new post with all the pics along with some Hi Def ones of the finished project. The current ones are taken with my cell phone.

I have one these little rifles and it is a pleasure to shoot.....AND accurate with the micro-groove rifling. My dad bought this one at K-Mart in 1967 to use for shooting snakes out of trees, LOL. I think he paid $50 for the rifle and it also came with a 4X scope. He did not use it much and it is still like new. Great Rifle! Looking forward to seeing your progress!!!

You should be able to see the pics by clicking on the link. I have not added any pics of the stock because I am doing something special to it and don't want to let the cat out of the bag, so to speak.

kennyd,
Yep, the same rifle as I have! I thought one time to strip the stock and put another finish on it, but since it was my dad's rifle, I decided to keep it as-is. It has never been shot a lot, but the accuracy of this rifle is uncanny; expecially being a $50 rifle, LOL! I will certainly keep an eye on this thread as you work on your rifle!!!

All that is left to do is stain and clearcoat. Cure for 72 hours then assemble, take photos and shoot the crap out of it.

Just started a rebuild/restore of my great grandfathers model 60. This will be artery extensive project as the stock is cracked and I'm finding some broken parts in the mechanism. But I've got her torn apart and sanded the stock down. Now to fix the broken metal... :/

I don't know how well your Model 60 Marlins are, but mine is more accurate than an Anschutz I had at one time. I have contributed this to the "micro-groove" barrel. It has been probably 6-7 years since I fired it, but it should still be ready to go. I did change the original scope that came with the rifle to another low cost 6 power scope. I could not believe how well a $50 rifle could shoot vs a $500 Anschutz.
MVRK, you may want to try Numrich Arms (Gun Parts Corp) for parts you may need. They have aton of parts for obsolete rifles.
