At what age do you let your kids shoot your guns? Here's my 12 yr old with my SP2022. We shot 75 rounds each that day.

I don't have any kids, but I've always felt that as long as they possess the physical strength to control various pistols/rifles, and are no longer afraid, there's really no set age. I was shooting a BB gun at around 5. I shot my first pistol at 14, but that was just because no one in my family was into guns at that time and a neighbor took me shooting. And that was a Ruger .44 mag revolver. lol

i remember the day my dad taught me the power of a firearm. He had just picked up a S&W 357 Magnum Revolver, and I was teasing him that my Red Rider was cooler than his Smith & Wesson. So he said Ok, lets go shoot them then. We went out on the property with my Red Rider, a Ruger 10x22 and the new 357 mag. He had me shoot at a 4x12 header with my Red Rider, didn't even leave a mark. Then he had me shoot the 22, which penetrated but not all the way through. Then he shot it with the 357 and blew a hole in that thing so big I will never forget it. While I thought it was cool I have to admit, it put the fear of god in me with that gun. I still wanted to try to shoot it one day(I was 5 at the time), but I didn't want to mess around with it or any other gun we had. But after that my dad went and picked up a Browning safe just to be certain we didn't get in to the guns.

My daughter has shot my SP2022 and my AR15 and absolutely loves to shoot. I bought her a CO2 powered bb pistol so she can refine her pistol skills without costing me a fortune. She has gotten good with my pellet rifle so much as nailing a coke can at 20 yards every shot. I don't think that I will ever be able to sneak off to the range alone again. Lol.

My son is now 42, an Army Doctor, based at Schoefield Barracks Hospital at Pearl Harbor and he loves to shoot too when he has time. The first pistol he shot was a WWII Walther P.38 at the age of 9 yrs old. The next year I bought him a single shot Anshutz .22LR and we had a ball shooting.
He was around guns from the day he was born and I tought him from the very beginning what a firearm was, could do, and how to be SAFE with them. When he was a toddler, I could lay a firearm in the floor and he would not TOUCH IT until he asked permission. Then he would do a safety check first! Training with firearms is the key to fun and enjoyment with them!
