My SP2022 is chambered in .40 S&W, it's an Exeter, NH gun with a production date of June 7, 2012. I've gotten to take it out twice in the 3 days I have owned it and shot 190 rds through it (saving 10 of my JHP's until I get my Palmetto order on Thursday). What I've found so far is that this gun is VERY consistent and has a very manageable recoil. I've cleaned it after both times I've shot it and the design of the firearm makes PERFECT sense. I was not confused at all about how things went together.
One of my favorite features of this pistol is the de-cocker. My older brother, who recently purchased an XD40, was stoked on that part of the gun as well. With the XD being striker fired you do not get that option, which also makes the gun a little unsafe (no matter how many safeties it has). I love the placement of it as well, it is in a well thought out position and is shaped in a way that I find ergonomically pleasing.
As far as reliability, I do not question the reliability of this weapon at all. I did experience plenty of failure to feeds on my second day shooting it with Fiocchi FMJ's but after some research I've concluded that was the ammunition (The bullet itself is very squared off whereas most others are somewhat rounded) and not the weapon itself. On my first day with it, I fired off 90 rds a combination of 40 rds of Winchester Ranger 180 gr JHP, 50 rds of Federal 180 gr FMJ and 100 Fiocchi 170 gr FMJ. I experienced zero issues with the first 90 rounds it ate them up no questions asked. The Fiocchi I had quite a few inconsistencies with and I'm anxious to shoot some more Federal to see if I have this issue again or if I can limit it to the Fiocchi. As of now I do not fault the pistol for this, should it come out that the pistol is failing to feed consistently I will have sig take care of it. But as I said, at this time I'm pretty confident it was the ammo.
The gun feels great in my hands. I do not feel uncomfortable at all when holding it, and I am starting to get a handle on the contrast sights. I was able to get a 4 inch grouping today with a full magazine at about 12 feet. I was hitting soda bottles at 10 yds on the first shot or within the first few. I'm excited to see how much I can improve with this as it is my first pistol.
Is it just me or is this a SEXY LOOKING PISTOL?! I'm sorry but when I look at this thing it just looks like the gun a bad ass is going to carry. I love the styling.
I picked up sigs laser for the gun when I bought it, I haven't really felt the need for it yet, in daylight you can't really see it. In a HD situation I feel it would just give away my position if the lights are out. I'd rather be comfortable with my sights and not have to depend on the laser. I could see myself upgrading to some Tru Glo sights with the Tritium Fibre Optic in the future but not any time soon.
Overall I am beyond happy with the gun. I can't wait to put more rounds through it and getting more experienced as this is a new sport for me. I'm not going to rate it because I'm very much a newbie and will be for awhile! ;D
